iPhone 5 : A Sleeker iPhone, Laser Keyboards and Holographic Display [VIDEO]

iPhone 5 Concept Features

One of the hottest topics in today’s buzz is iPhone 5. A long time ago, our people started to dream about this new iPhone. Many drew various concept designs… Many talked about rumors about exciting new features which Apple will include in this latest gadget… Some even created info-graphics about iPhone 5. Now, these iPhone fans have created a cool video! If all those features comes to iPhone 5… I’ll think about buying it!

According to this video, iPhone 5 have gone on a diet! A very thin phone… I think it’s as thin as a piece of hard cardboard (ones we use for cardboard boxes!). Easy to carry, and very cute…
It also shows a laser keyboard! Is the iPhone keyboard too small for you? Want to do some heavy typing? Well, I always hate to spend time typing through the phone because of the small keyboard. But, what if you got a laser keyboard which might be barely enough for you to stretch your fingers? Now, that’s cool!
At first you complained about the small keyboard… Now you are complaining about the small screen? Then, check the new holographic display shown in this video! Now you can get a bigger screen just through your small iPhone!
Ok people, the show is over! This is only a concept! Only an idea! We should thank the AatmaStudio for creating this nice video. Who knows what Apple will put into the new iPhone 5? The best way to learn is… Wait until its released. If the rumors are correct… Then you’ll be able to see the first iPhone 5 on October 21! So, are you ready?

How do you hold your iPhone?

Depending on how you hold your iPhone 4 during calls you may or may not notice your reception drop. Some haven't seen it at all, but many have definitely experienced it while browsing, emailing or using apps. We think it has a bit to do with your initial reception and people in stronger coverage areas are affected less. But we're also pretty sure — and Apple confirms it — that touching the antenna does affect things — whether or not it has the final result of killing calls or speed of data connection.

This is how Apple explained it:

"Gripping any mobile phone will result in some attenuation of its antenna performance, with certain places being worse than others depending on the placement of the antennas. This is a fact of life for every wireless phone.

With our past devices, the antenna performance when the phone was held in a certain way didn't seem to be an issue or stand out in particular. But with the iPhone 4 we're definitely seeing an effect, particularly when using data or tapping away on our on-screen keyboards."

Stop holding it wrong

Apple has explained that the iPhone 4 reception issues end when people just plain stop holding their devices the wrong way. DON'T LISTEN TO APPLE.

Hold your iPhone like any NOKIA Phone

Read more at How do you hold your Nokia? The key function on any Nokia device is its ability to make phone calls. After all, that’s why we know them universally as mobile phones (or smart phones, feature phones or mobile computers – though the same grip styles work for those, too). One of the main things we’ve found about the 1 billion plus Nokia devices that are in use today is that when making a phone call, people generally tend to hold their phone like a…. well, like a phone. Providing a wide range of methods and grips for people to hold their phones, without interfering with the antennae, has been an essential feature of every device Nokia has built.

Of course, feel free to ignore all of the above because realistically, you’re free to hold your Nokia device any way you like. And you won’t suffer any signal loss.

FBI investigates iPad security breach

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has opened a probe into a security breach of Apple Inc's iPad that exposed personal information of AT&T Inc customers, including those of several high-ranking government officials.

The breach, first reported by the website Gawker, occurred when a group calling itself Goatse Security hacked into AT&T's iPad subscriber data, obtaining a list of email addresses that also included celebrities, chief executives and politicians.

"The FBI is aware of these possible computer intrusions and has opened an investigation to address the potential cyber threat," FBI spokesman Jason Pack said on Thursday.

AT&T, which has exclusive U.S. rights to carry the iPad and the popular iPhone, has acknowledged the security breach but said it had corrected the flaw and that only email addresses were exposed to hackers who identified a security weakness.

It declined to comment on the FBI investigation.

The quick FBI probe into the security flaw came amid reports of several high-ranking government officials on the list of iPad owners with compromised personal information.

In all, more than 100,000 email addresses are believed to have been exposed. Goatse could not immediately be reached for comment.

One source in the telecommunications industry said it was not surprising that the FBI was looking at the breach.

"If there's a high profile data compromise it's not unusual to get a phone call from government officials," said the executive, who asked not to be named.

The iPad, launched in April, has already sold more than 2 million units worldwide.

NO COMPROMISE?

The iPad, launched in April, has already sold more than 2 million units worldwide. Buzz around the device -- which alongside the iPhone will form a pivotal part of the company's international growth strategy -- helped propel Apple past Microsoft Corp in May to become the world's most valuable technology stock.

But rivals from Dell Inc to Hewlett-Packard Co are scrambling to get rival offerings onto the fledgling market, and the security breach could pose a potential embarrassment for Apple's 2-month-old device. Read Dell Lightning, a Windows Phone 7 portrait slider.

Security experts said it was unlikely that other information besides email addresses had been compromised.

Charlie Miller, an analyst with Independent Security Evaluators, argued that the breach had nothing to do the iPad's security.

"The actual vulnerability is pretty basic, but the loss of data is not serious, in my opinion. The data on the iPad and the devices themselves were never compromised or vulnerable," Miller said via e-mail.

George Kurtz, chief technology officer for security software company McAfee, also downplayed the severity of the breach.

"I would guess that this application vulnerability gained so much attention because, after all, it is Apple we are talking about," Kurtz wrote in a blog post.

"The hype around Apple products -- like the new iPhone and iPad -- is amazing. However, the reality is this type of vulnerability isn't really news and happens all day long."

But the security gaffe isn't likely help AT&T win any friends among Apple customers. The carrier has been criticized by iPhone users for the quality its network.

Still, few people thought the security snafu would hurt AT&T's relationship with Apple.

"Everybody realizes security is an issue all companies have to deal with," BTIG analyst Walter Piecyk said. "Apple has endured the reputation of AT&T's network, which seems to be a much bigger deal."

iPhone 4 on sale

Apple unveils iPhone 4 to fend off Google. Apple Inc unveiled a new iPhone on Monday that goes on sale in scores of countries this year, preparing its fastest-ever global roll-out to try and stay a step ahead of rivals like Google Inc in a red-hot smartphone market.

CEO Steve Jobs showed off a redesigned $199 "iPhone 4" that is a quarter slimmer than the current handset. The device boasts a higher quality screen and better battery life, video chat via Wi-Fi, and a gyroscope sensor for improved gaming.

A slim but energetic Jobs told a media and industry audience at Apple's annual developers' conference in San Francisco that the latest phone will be available June 24 in five countries, expanding to 18 by July and 88 by September in the quickest-ever international roll-out for an iPhone.

That signaled how serious Apple is about gaining traction abroad, where iPhone penetration is still relatively small.

Despite the iPad's success in its first two months on the market -- more than 2 million sold in 60 days -- the iPhone remains Apple's main growth line, and the international market is key. Some analysts estimate more than two-thirds of iPhone sales are now coming from overseas.

"It's really just a huge market unit opportunity abroad for the iPhone," Broadpoint Amtech analyst Brian Marshall said.

But many of the innovations on the iPhone 4 had been expected, and industry watchers say it is becoming more difficult to stand out in a crowded field.

Google's Android operating system -- used by many brands from Motorola Inc and HTC Corp to Samsung Electronics Co Ltd and Dell Inc -- poses the biggest threat, analysts say.

The iPhone's global share surged to more than 15 percent in the first quarter, making it No. 3 in smartphones. Phones based on Android ranked No. 4 with close to 10 percent of the market, a huge increase from the previous year and gaining, Gartner data shows. Read Top 5 Mobile Phone Manufacturers.

"There was nothing earth-shattering about what we saw or heard today," said CCS insight analyst John Jackson. "All of that said, you can't think it will be anything other than a phenomenal success."

Hudson Square Research analyst Daniel Ernst called the new device "more evolutionary than revolutionary."

"It doesn't completely change the paradigm for the iPhone," he said.

GOLD STANDARD

Still, Jobs argued the fourth-generation iPhone -- which for the first time sports the same A4 processor that powers the iPad -- marks the biggest technological leap since the first model debuted and set the standard.

"This is beyond a doubt the most precise thing and one of the most beautiful things we've ever made," Jobs said.

Apple's CEO displayed all of his famed skills as a pitchman, mixing wry wit with an obvious passion for Apple's products. He even joked about the iPhone prototype that fell into the hands of Gizmodo, which spilled many of its secrets. Read Leaked photo of iPhone 4G - iPhone HD.

Although the iPhone remains Apple's main growth driver, the iPad has stolen some of its thunder. With the early success of the tablet computer, Apple's stock has gained around 20 percent this year, overtaking Microsoft Corp to become the world's most valuable technology company.

Apple's shares fell 2 percent to close at $250.94 on the Nasdaq. Google shares fell 2.7 percent, while Research in Motion Ltd dropped 5.2 percent.

Rodman & Renshaw analyst Ashok Kumar noted that investors are likely waiting for Apple to expand its iPhone distribution to U.S. carriers beyond AT&T before getting excited.

"The next big event is going to be Verizon. It's a guessing game whether it will be late 2010 or early 2011," he said.

For now, the new device should be more profitable, given price and hardware specifications, Marshall said.

"I feel like we're going to see gross margins expand here on the iPhone," he said.

The iPhone -- introduced in 2007 with the touchscreen, on-demand application template now adopted by its rivals -- remains the gold standard in the fast-growing smartphone market.

Apple sold a record 8.75 million iPhones in its latest quarter, accounting for 40 percent of its revenue. With margins estimated at 60 percent, it is Apple's prime growth driver, helping margins climb to a record 41.7 percent in the most recent quarter from 34 percent in fiscal 2007.

Only last year, Research in Motion Ltd was seen as Apple's top rival. While the company's BlackBerry remains the smartphone of choice for many corporations that need fast email, Apple has made strides in that market.

Analysts said the latest iPhone incorporates new security features obviously targeted at business customers.

Apple's prime target remains the consumer. But there, new competitors are designing high-powered handsets based on Google's Android software, offering fast, web-surfing and video-enabled phones with access to thousands of apps.

Interpret analyst Michael Gartenberg said that the newest iPhone will manage to exert pressure on Google and rival handset-makers.

"It's much more complete, much more adept in terms of the polish and delivery and it's going to force the other competitors to up their game," he said.

iPhone 4G Prototype Surfaces in Vietnam

iPhone 4G photo leaksA new set of photos of a 4th generation iPhone prototype have surface on two Vietnamese websites (one of it being Taoviet.vn). Read also previous post Leaked photo of iPhone 4G - iPhone HD.

The phone in the photos - which bears clear Apple markings - look almost identical to the one left in a Silicon Valley bar by Apple engineer Gray Powell during his birthday drinks in March, photos of which were later published on the US gadget website Gizmodo.

A YouTube video accompanying the write-up on one of the Vietnamese websites says the prototype was bought by a businessman from an unnamed source for $US4000.

If the new images prove to be authentic, and markings on the components of the disassembled phone appear to confirm the provenance, then it was mark another serious security breach for Apple.

The new 4G iPhone are due to ht the market in a few months. Apple is obsessive about keeping news about new products under wraps.

Last month Gizmodo pulled off a huge scoop when it posted photos of the new iPhone. It had been found in the bar and sold for $US5000 to Gizmodo, a gadget blog owned by Gawker Media.

According to Gizmodo, features of the new phone, expected to be unveiled later this year, include a front-facing video camera for video chat, a flash and an improved regular camera with a larger lens.

It also has a flat back instead of curved back, is thinner than the 3GS, is three grams heavier and has a battery that is 16 percent larger.

Leaked photo of iPhone 4G - iPhone HD

Leaked photo of iPhone 4G - iPhone HDImages purportedly showing the next-generation iPhone 4G have been leaked on to the web after a prototype was reportedly left on the floor of a bar. Another hint is that the next generation of iPhone 4G might be branded as iPhone HD.

Apple is expected to reveal a new iPhone model in June, which is when it typically holds an iPhone-related media event. The new model will refresh the iPhone line following fresh attacks from competitors, including the HTC Desire and other Google Android-based phones.

Engadget published the images over the weekend, sparking a barrage of speculation that the device was actually a knock-off iPhone made in Japan.

Engadget also said it had confirmed through a source that the depicted handset is the next iPhone, and that the device would include a higher resolution screen, front-facing camera for video conferencing, 80GB of storage and a higher resolution camera on the back with flash.

Israel banned iPad imports

Israel banned iPad importsiPad Wi-Fi too hot for Israel. Israel has banned imports of Apple's hottest new product, the iPad, citing concerns the powerful gadget's wireless signals could disrupt other devices.

UPDATES:
* Apr 26 - Israel on Sunday lifted a ban on Apple's popular iPad tablet computer, ending restrictions that had been imposed over concerns the gadget's wireless signal could disrupt other devices.

Israeli customs officials said they have already confiscated about 10 of the lightweight tablet computers since Israel announced the new regulations this week. The ban prevents anyone - even tourists - from bringing iPads into Israel until officials certify that they comply with local transmitter standards.

The US Federal Communications Commission allows devices with Wi-Fi capability in the US to broadcast at higher power levels than are allowed in Europe and Israel - meaning that the iPad's stronger signal could throw off other wireless connections.

"If you operate equipment in a frequency band which is different from the others that operate on that frequency band, then there will be interference," said Nati Schubert, a senior deputy director for the Israeli Communications Ministry. "We don't care where people buy their equipment. But without regulation, you would have chaos."

Some Israelis successfully got the popular devices into Israel before the ban.

Amnon, a software developer who took an iPad into Israel legally but asked that his last name be withheld to avoid potential government repercussions, said he and other high-tech businessmen needed the iPad to develop new applications for the device.

"There are several hundred people in Israel who make their livelihood developing apps ... and there are going to be companies that suffer, because they can't deliver the services they're supposed to be delivering," he said.

The iPad combines the features of a notebook computer with the touch-pad functions of the iPod. It went on sale in the US on April 3. Apple this week delayed its international launch until May 10, citing higher than expected demand.

Israeli officials said the ban had nothing to do with trade and was simply a precaution to make sure that the iPad would not affect wireless devices already in use in Israel.

Although Israeli standards are similar to those in many European nations, Israel is the only country so far to officially ban imports.

Schubert said he expects the problem to be resolved as Apple moves closer to the international release.

In the meantime, confiscated iPads will be held by customs - for a daily storage fee - until their owners leave the country or ship the gadgets back to the US at their own expense.

Apple's chief distributor in Israel, iDigital, declined to comment on the decision, and messages left at Apple's headquarters in California were not returned.

Apple iAds in a mobile ad war with Google AdMob

Apple iAdApple CEO Steve Jobs showed off a new smartphone operating system that features an advertising platform to compete with Google's, and revealed stronger-than-expected sales of 450,000 units for the iPad. The new advertising platform for the iPhone and iPad - dubbed iAd - marks Apple's first foray into a small but growing market, and is sure to please the thousands of application developers who make their living off those devices, providing them with a new revenue stream.

The iPhone 4.0 software will be available on Apple's hugely popular smartphone mid-year, complete with a number of upgrades, including a long-awaited multi-tasking capability that allows the use of several applications at once.

A version of the iPhone's operating system is also used on the iPad, and the latest generation of software will come to Apple's new tablet computer in the second half of the year.

The iPad's early sales impressed analysts, many of whom expect 1 million units to be sold in the quarter ending June, and roughly 5 million in 2010, though estimates vary widely. DID YOU KNOW: Mobile phone users numbered 5 billion

"We're making them as fast as we can. Our ramp is going well, but evidently we can't quite make enough of them yet so we're going to have to try harder," Jobs said, noting iPad sellouts at Best Buy stores.

The electronics giant has staked its reputation on the 9.7-inch touchscreen tablet, essentially a cross between a smartphone and a laptop. It is helping foster a market for tablet computers that is expected to grow to as many as 50 million units by 2014, according to analysts.

"I think it's pretty impressive, five days almost half a million units, and it shows there's still pretty good momentum behind the first day," said Gartner analyst Van Baker.

Despite critics who question whether a true need exists for such a gadget, analysts expect Hewlett-Packard, Dell and others to trot out their own competing devices this year.

Since the iPad went on sale on April 3, users have downloaded 600,000 digital books and 3.5 million applications for the device, Jobs said. There are already 3,500 apps available for the iPad.

"It was above my expectations, frankly," said Joe Clark, managing partner of Financial Enhancement Group, referring to iPad sales. "The day the original Apps Store launched it was a game change for the iPhone and it will do the same eventually for the iPad."

At a media event at the company's Cupertino, California, headquarters, Jobs said Apple had so far sold more than 50 million iPhones, the smartphone that competes with Research in Motion's Blackberry and a range of Google Android-based mobiles.

That implies that the company sold 7 million or more devices in the March quarter, which would be above many analysts' forecasts.

Mobile ad war

Apple is expected to launch the fourth-generation model of its iPhone, which was introduced in 2007, later this year.

Pancreatic cancer survivor Jobs, looking thin but energetic, introduced the iAd mobile platform, which he said had the opportunity to make 1 billion ad impressions a day on tens of millions of Apple mobile device users.

IAds will allow applications developers to use advertisements in their apps, pocketing 60 per cent of the revenue. Apple will sell and host the ads.

Jobs harshly criticised the current manner and look of mobile advertising, particularly search ads. He promised that iAds will foster more engaging advertising that will not pull users away from the content within apps.

New Arena

Tim Bajarin, president of consulting company Creative Strategies, said it was a dramatic shift in thinking about the delivery of mobile ads, and an obvious move by Apple to set itself apart from Google, which made its name on search ads.

"It's very clear that Jobs believes that ads in the context of apps makes more sense than generic mobile search," he said.

Apple's entry into the mobile ad arena had been widely expected. This year, it paid $US270 million for Quattro Wireless, an advertising network that spans both mobile websites and smartphone applications.

Google, which already sells advertising on smartphones, agreed to buy mobile ad firm AdMob late in 2009. U.S. regulators are examining the deal's antitrust implications. DID YOU KNOW: Google-AdMob was one of the Top 10 Best Deal in 2009.

Jobs said Apple was also in the hunt to buy AdMob before Google "snatched them from us because they didn't want us to have them." The comments were just the latest hint at the rift that has emerged between Apple and Google, which were once allies but now compete in a number of arenas.

Research group Gartner expects the mobile advertising market to expand by 78 per cent to $US1.6 billion in 2010.

Jobs also said the new operating system will include support for multi-tasking - addressing a perennial consumer complaint - allowing users to switch between several programs running simultaneously.
