The first man is expected to surface from underground within the next few hours, seeing daylight for the first time in 10 weeks. Rescue of trapped miners are under way in Chile. 2 miners are now out of the pit. Read also Chile Miners and Number 33

21:56 PM ET Sirens, cheering and joy at Camp Hope as a 22-hour operation to rescue the 33 miners ends in triumph when Luis Urzua emerged. A topographer by training, Mr Urzua drew up plans of the area where he and his comrades were trapped. All 33 miners are now out.

17:32 PM ET Carlos Bugueno, 27, is the 23rd miner being brought back to the surface. He was one of the "palomeros", the miners who took it in turns to look after sending and receiving packages that were nicknamed "palomas" or "doves" that were sent via the supply pipes.

17:04 PM ET Samuel Avalos,43, is the 22nd miner to return to the surface.

16:31 PM ET The 21st miner, Yonni Barrios, reaches the surface. Aged 50, he became known as "the doctor" because of his knowledge of first aid from helping his diabetic mother as a child.

16:00 PM ET The 20th miner, Dario Segovia, reaches the surface.

15:28 PM ET Pablo Rojas, the 19th person to be rescued from San Jose mine, has reached the surface.

14:49 PM ET Capsule carrying the 18th person to be rescued from the mine, Esteban Rojas, 44, has reached the surface. Esteban Rojas, a father of three, kneels on the ground and crosses himself as soon as he arrives at the surface.

13:39 PM ET The 17th person to be rescued from the mine, Omar Reygadas, 56, has reached the surface. After he left the capsule, Omar Reygadas knelt on the ground clutching a bible.

12:49 PM ET Daniel Herrera, 27, is the 16th man to be brought out of the San Jose mine. Normally a lorry driver, he acted as paramedic's assistant during the ordeal.

12:00 PM ET 1200 Victor Segovia, the 15th person to be rescued from the mine, has reached the surface. Victor Segovia, 48, an electrician who was given the role of providing a daily report on the situation in the mine.

11:35 AM ET Victor Zamora, 33, is the 14th person rescued. He is a vehicle mechanic who had the misfortune to be in the mine on the day of the accident.

11:00 AM ET The 13th man sent up is Carlos Barrios. Carlos Barrios, 27, was one of the shift leaders at the time of the accident.

10:15 AM ET Capsule bringing 34 years old Edison Pena reached the surface. He's the 12th miner rescued. Edison is a recent triathlete who in the early days of entrapment ran 10 km daily through the tunnels to beat the anxiety.

09:28 AM ET 11th miner, Jorge Galleguillos, who danced traditional "cueca" dance in the mine during the Sept independence celebrations, reached the surface.

08:46 AM ET Alex Vega becomes the tenth man out of the mine.

08:00 AM ET Veteran miner Mario Gomez becomes the ninth man safely pulled to the surface. Mr Gomez, the oldest man in the mine, falls to his knees in prayer.

11:16 PM ET First Miner Is Free - Florencio Ávalos is free, emerging from the mine and into the arms of a family that hasn't seen him for 69 days. Ávalos is the first of 33 miners to escape from under roughly 2,300 feet of rock.

9:48 PM ET Capsule Going Down - Sky News producer Neal Mann reports, "Manuel Alejandro González Pavez will reportedly be the first rescuer to go down, he will remain down there until the last miner is rescued.". Manuel Alejandro González Pavez, a worker from Chile's biggest mining company CODELCO.
